My friend of mine had this idea of what we'd like to see them do if they're to continue the avatar series after Korra and here's what it is. Since Last Airbender had a more traditional form of story telling with air bender as the avatar and Legend of Korra had a more steam punk feel to it with a water bender as the avatar. I think it'd be awesome if it went like this
1. Avatar = Airbender, Style = Traditional
2. Avatar = Waterbender, Style = Steampunk
3. Avatar = Earthbender, Style = Mordern - Well more modern with slicker looking cars and skyscrapers and cell phones but nothing too futuristic that's when the fouth series comes in-
4. Avatar = Firebender, Style = Cyberpunk - Since LOK was more Steampunk seems it only makes sense to have this one be Cyberpunk. I'm not saying "take Avatar and just make it Blade Runner" no they could definitely take the cyberpunk genre and do their own spin on it but have there be Artificial Intelligence, people with robotic limbs, flying cars, even more hi tech robots in it, cool stuff like that but with an Avatar flavor to it
Believe it or not, I had the same kind of idea. ATLA and LOK mirror the world in the 19th and 20th centuries, respectively. I like the "Avatar meets Deus Ex or Ghost in the Shell" idea for the 4th series, but the 3rd one can have a hip-hop influence (similar to Samurai Champloo), a war for resources (echoing the Iraq/Afghanistan conflict), and different cable news networks with different opinions of the Avatar (thinly-veiled parodies of CNN and Fox News).
Hip hop influence for the 3rd one. I like that didn't think of that but that could work and you could have neo equalists (like neo nazis) so you have some equalists that are gangs or something like that who still hate benders. They maybe aware that Amon was a bender himself (or maybe they're just so crazy that they don't even care, i don't know) but they still believe in what he said but not him himself
Actually the 3rd Deus Ex game talked about a similar topic as the equalists in LOK (with the whole normal people vs augmented people thing) and you could incorporate something like that into the 4 series. You could have a mystery or a conspiracy where it's not as simple as good guy vs bad guy as it use to be. just an idea
Concerning these "neo-equalists", they can either be unorganized Jokerz or the same old terrorists run by a new Osama-type leader.
The concept of "ordinary vs. extraordinary" is nothing new. The fight between both kinds of people has its roots in the issues of its chosen time period. Cyborgs vs. normal folk, benders vs. non-benders, and mutants vs. ordinary humans all stem from civil rights and the century-long struggle between capitalism and communism.
